About the Rider
FAQ
So who are you ?
My name is Ben Price and I am the guy behind the idea of Length of the Land.
Im 31 and I run a video production company The Imagineering Works which doesn’t bring in so much money these days so I make ends meet by working for an electronics retailer.
So how much biking experience do you have?
To be honest not a lot. I don’t have a car licence or have driven anything on a road before Jan 2009. I decided it was time I sorted that out and in late Jan I took my CBT test and bought a Yamaha YBR 125 motorbike. I’ve not looked back at all.
1 month after starting biking I undertook a 210 mile ride to my parents place in north Derbyshire. It was a tough ride, mostly because of the cold and fogging issues I had with my glasses and my visor. I learned a lot from that trip and have made a couple more trips up since then.
So why are you doing this thing?
This trip came about because of two things. Firstly I wanted to do a bigger trip than any I’d done previously. CBTs do not allow you to ride on motorways or ride abroad so whatever I was going to do I’d have to do it on A and B roads and in this country. Initially I thought of going round Wales, camping and visiting the sites as I went round. However this didn’t fulfil the second thing I wanted to achieve which was raise money for a charity and make a difference.
This then lead to the idea of riding the length of the land.
Aren’t you worried about such a long trip?
Of course. Its a test of my organisational skills (which as those who know me will say, is … interesting), my navigational skills and my financial skills. I don’t earn a huge amount so budgeting for this trip is paramount.
Im very proud to be able to represent UNICEF in this endeavour and I hope to be able raise a decent amount for them.
